Başakşehir Square is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Başakşehir district. It is the largest square in Turkey, covering an area of 60,000 m², which is twice the size of Taksim Square.

Located near the Istanbul Canal, Başakşehir Square is a central hub hosting top shopping centers, restaurants, cafes, and recreational facilities.

The square also houses one of Istanbul’s largest mosques, accommodating up to 5,000 worshippers at the same time. Beneath the square lies a parking facility with a capacity of over 9,000 vehicles.

Next to the square is “Nation’s Garden”, one of the largest parks in Europe, built on the former grounds of Atatürk Airport, which closed in April 2019 after flights were transferred to Istanbul Airport.

In May 2022, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan planted the first saplings of the Nation’s Garden, which is now the largest in Turkey and the fifth largest in the world, covering about 2 million m².

The park will include walking and cycling paths, a water spring, a valley, and facilities for events, sports, and children’s entertainment, with spaces for 28,000 people for events and 10,000 m² dedicated to kids’ playgrounds.
