Since 2003, Turkey has attracted $165 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) across various sectors including energy, industry, finance, and mining. The Netherlands, the United States, and the United Kingdom account for nearly one-third of these investments.

Turkey has strengthened its position as an attractive hub for international capital thanks to the opportunities it offers for long-term investors, along with its strategic geographical and political importance. Its proximity to both European and Middle Eastern markets has made Turkey a preferred choice for global investors.

According to the Turkish Central Bank, foreign investors poured $164.6 billion into Turkey between 2003–2021. The peak was in 2007, with a record $19.1 billion in FDI.

European Investments Dominate

Europe accounts for 73% of total FDI, with $120.1 billion invested in 18 years. Asian investors contributed $29 billion, while American investors added $14.3 billion.

  • The Netherlands leads the list with $26.2 billion, covering ports, real estate, construction, agriculture, aviation, electronics, automotive, and tourism.

  • The United States follows with $12.9 billion, primarily in banking, finance, and technology.

  • The United Kingdom invested $11.6 billion, focusing on energy, infrastructure, and tourism.

  • Austria invested $10.6 billion, mainly in retail and energy.

  • Germany ranks fifth with $10.1 billion, especially in automotive, energy, and petrochemicals.

Other key investors include Luxembourg, Spain, Belgium, France, and Azerbaijan, active in banking, energy, petrochemicals, insurance, and food.
