The First Bridge of the Istanbul Canal Under Construction
Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, announced on Twitter that the Sazlıdere Bridge, the first of six bridges planned for the Istanbul Canal, is under construction. The bridge will be built with steel cables and will extend 1,618 meters in length.
Karaismailoğlu stated:
“We inspected the works on the Sazlıdere Bridge within our forward-looking vision for Turkey’s logistics and strategic transportation plan linked to the Istanbul Canal.”
The Sazlıdere Bridge, whose foundation stone was laid on June 26, 2021, in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is the first suspension bridge of the new Istanbul Canal. It is one of six bridges currently under construction to connect the two sides of the canal.

Since the start of the Istanbul Canal project, land and property prices along both banks have risen significantly due to the strategic importance of the canal. It will connect the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and split the European side of Istanbul into two, turning the eastern section into an island between Asia and Europe.
