Erdoğan opens a new metro in Başakşehir

On Saturday, April 8, 2023,  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan opened Başakşehir-Kayaşehir metro, to be added to the Istanbul metro system.

The new metro line connects Çam and Sakura Hospital “Başakşehir Medical City” to Kayaşehir, and can carry approximately 70,000 passengers per hour in one direction. According to previous statements by the Minister of Transport and infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu.

At the opening ceremony today, Turkish President Erdoğan said in his speech that the railway system in Istanbul reached 324.5 kilometers. When the ongoing projects are completed, this figure will exceed 380 kilometers, stressing that “we are achieving our vision of weaving Istanbul with railway system, one step at a time” according to him. Erdoğan stressed that by merging this metro line with other public transport lines, easy access has been provided to many places. This will make it possible to travel between Kayaşehir and Mahmutbey in 20 minutes, between MetroKent and Istanbul Airport in 24 minutes, between Çam and Sakura Hospital and Bağcılar in 23 minutes, and between MetroKent and Bakırköy in 29 minutes. The Turkish minister “Adil Karaismailoğlu” stated earlier that a total of 10,250m of the tunnel for this new line of metro has been completed excavating. In addition, a total of 32.661 square meters of interior space were built in the four stations.

The minister said we are proud to offer a new service to the people of Istanbul where citizens will be able to travel by metro to Istanbul Airport in the districts of Güngören, Bağcılar, Bahçelievler, and Başakşehir. The new metro line adds great importance to the properties and lands surrounding the area because it will lead to an increase in the value of properties and surrounding lands especially and in the city of Başakşehir in general

Erdoğan stressed that by merging this metro line with other public transport lines, easy access has been provided to many places.
